ESL One New York Semi-Finalists Decided

This years ESL One New York semi-finalists have been decided with SK Gaming, Virtus Pro, Natus Vincere and Team Liquid all qualifying.


The first of two semi-finals will see Team Liquid take on Natus Vincere with SK Gaming facing off against Virtus Pro in the second game. These four teams topped the Swiss Group after five rounds of qualifying and made it through to the semi’s.

Na’Vi have had the best route into the semi’s after securing 3 out of 3 wins with a strong +24 round difference. SK came next, needing 4 match’s to qualify after losing to Na Vi in their third match. Team Liquid and Virtus Pro both had to play 5 games after losing 2 apiece, 1 each against Na Vi.

Route to the Semi’s

The first day of the tournament saw Na’Vi picking up their first win against fellow semi-finalists Team Liquid on Mirage. They secured the game 16-9, winning both halves. VP and SK got off to winning starts against Fnatic and Optic Gaming respectively. From here Team Liquid started round 2 in the low bracket beating G2 Esports 16-7 on Train. The other semi-finalists all started in the top bracket with Na Vi beating VP 16-9 and SK carrying on their winning ways overcoming Astralis 16-13.

Into the 3rd round, VP recovered their loss against Na’Vi by beating Team Liquid 16-8 on Mirage. In the top bracket Na’Vi and SK, who both had a 100% record so far, battled it out on Mirage with the first semi-final spot up for grabs. It was Na’Vi who prevailed though comfortably beating SK 16-6 with an impressive 7-0 second half.

In the fourth round it was SK who would secure the second semi-final spot beating VP 16-8 on Train. Americans, Team Liquid, had a brilliant battle with Fnatic with both teams almost inseparable. Team Liquid went on to win it 16-14 setting up a fifth round rematch with Fnatic. Liquid won a bit more comfortably this time. They secured a 16-12 victory to book their place in the semi’s in consecutive ESL tournaments.  In the second match VP were tested by OpTic, narrowly beating them 16-14 to decide the final spot.

The finals will be played just hours after the semi-finals have concluded today. The winners will take home the top prize of $125,000. Join us again where we will be running over all that happened in today’s semi-finals and the grand final itself.
